This collection contains materials relating to Amish and Mennonite schools and schooling. Folder one contains Rachel K. Stoltzfus' mimeographed handouts for Teacher's Meetings during the years 1982-1992 which provide a glimpse of classroom lessons, projects, prayers, and songs. Lessons covered include latitude and longitude, word usage, spelling, bookmending, discounting, etc. Sometimes a grade level is suggested. Folder two contains class memory books full of poems, short stories, students' names, and daily notes compiled by the teacher (Stoltzfus). Published materials, in folder three, include A brief history of the 1966 Teacher's Meeting (held in Lancaster Co., Pa.) and some of Thomas L. Newcomb's educational booklets for parents and teachers. Additionally, several articles discuss the Amish school question: Amish one-room schools (Klimuska, Lancaster new era), The legal battles of the Amish over compulsory education 1927-1972 (Zanten, 1991), The Amish school question (Dush, 1960), and The Amish and their schools: the issue as seen by renowned educators and church leaders (1967).
